The Girl - Chapter 1

There was a beach. The sand glistened silver in the moonlight, and the palm trees moved gently to the left and right. There was sand, as far as any eye could see, except for one part. Down the other end of the beach, there were some rocks. The waves crashed against them, softly. If your eyes followed the sand, there were footprints. The only person there was a young girl. Everyone just knew her as "The Girl". No name, homeless and different. Every night, with only the moon to see, she would come down to the rocks. Standing there, for hours. Not moving. Her shoulder-long hair wipped her face, but she did not move. Her green eyes were the only thing that moved. Watching the horizon, waiting for somebody.
This girl was different from every other. She was wearing a pair of blue pants, coming down to her shin and a white top. She didn't look special, but she was. If you looked closely at her eyes, you could see that they were almond-shaped, like a cats. Her ears were pointed, like and elves. Sometimes her teeth were sharp, but not tonight.
Tonight was like every other night. She would walk down to the beach, watch the moon lower and the sun rise. After standing still for hours, she would leave, only to come back the next night. This had been going on for years. But tonight, she was not alone.
The girl walked out from under the palm trees and walked towards the rocks. There was something sitting on her shoulder, a cat? No, a bird. Its yellow eyes looked straight at the rocks. I believe that it had a name, Percy, or something like that. The girl's eyes never left the rocks. She knew that tonight was the night. I don't remember why any more. The girl had soon reached the rocks. She climbed up to the top and the hawk left her shoulder. Circling then disappearing towards the moon. It was only midnight, not late for her at all.
She closed her eyes, picturing what her life could have been like. She could be in bed, with loving parents ready to look after you in the morning, make you breakfast and send you off to school. She didn't have any of that. Percy (the hawk) was her only friend. She breathed in the salty air, relaxing, becoming one with nature. Percy had long gone. How long had she been standing there? One or two hours? She had lost track of time a long time ago. There was a clicking noise in front of her. She smiled and opened up her eyes. Sitting in the water was a dolphin.
This was why she wasn't like other girls, or humans for that matter. She could call dolphins. That was her special gift.
Her history is even more difficult to tell, as it is complicated. Let me see if I can describe it for you. This girl's name is Moon. She dosen't know where she came from, or who she is. I can tell you more though. Moon is an Angel, cast down from heaven. She had a job to do. One she has to find out herself. Percy is her friend. They are bonded to each other. If Percy dies, so does she. This was one of the reasons why she was cast down from heaven. Moon turned mortal, not allowed in the "Angel's rule book". I think that's all I'm going to tell you about Moon and Percy. I'll let you read on with the story.
